2010 Diary Dates
QARNNS Rosebowl 2010 - This will now take place on 21-22 June, just prior to the MDG(N) Symposium. Venue HMS Temeraire commencing 0900 on 21 June with prizes being awarded at 1400 on 22 June 2010. All Association and serving personnel who are not taking an active part in the proceedings are warmly encouraged to come along and support your friends and colleagues. MDG(N) Symposium 2010 - This will take place on 23-24 June to be held in the Millenium Hall HMS Collingwood including an all ranks dinner to be held on the evening of 23 June 2010 in the WO/SR Mess. For application details contact your service line manager.
PCRF Nursing VIP Visitors Day - Mon 19 Jul alongside in Portsmouth whilst preparing for Navy Days. More information to follow.

Blood Red Dinner - Friday 8 Oct in Plymouth with 1SL and CGRM.
QARNNS Remembrance Service 2010 - This will take place on Tues 9th Nov at Portsmouth Cathedral, Old Portsmouth. More details to follow

13 Jan 10 - Charity event in memory of the late Surgeon Vice-Admiral Ian Jenkins CVO
An intrepid brother and sister team are to undertake a once-in-a-lifetime challenge in memory of their father, the late Surgeon Vice-Admiral Ian Jenkins, who died unexpectedly in February 2009. Together with their respective spouses, Georgina Park and Mike Jenkins aim to raise over £5000 for Seafarers UK by completing the grueling 24 Peaks Challenge in July this year. 14 Dec 09 - Lt Wesson returns from Winston Churchill Travelling Fellowship
Lt Wesson has just returned from 4 weeks in Washington DC and San Antonio where he was working with the US Army on how they prevent and treat traumatic stress injuries. He is pictured here receiving a Excellence Medal from Maj Tim Carroll for a presentation he gave to a Combat Operational Stress Control Course. 08 Dec 09 - Lt Cdr Ali Hoffman QARNNS receives RRC

05 Nov 09 - QARNNS NATIONAL ARBORETUM MEMORIAL APPEAL
Thanks for the stirling efforts of individuals, particularly members of the association the Memorial Appeal now stands at just under £6500, which is just £1500 away from the £8000 target. 29 Sep 09 - Success for QARNNS and the MOD at the No Smoking Day Awards. Sweeping the board this year was newcomer HM Forces/MOD Gibraltar, which was crowned overall winner due to the sheer quality and creativity of its submissions. For more details go to the QARNNS Awards page
25 Sep 09 - Best student award
PONN Thornburn won the Eliza MacKenzie Prize for the best student nurse of the year for his achievements during his nurse training. This was presented by Capt Allkins at the 2009 QARNNS Symposium at HMS Drake.
9 Sep 09 - Sailing Exercise Canary Gold. This Exercise is a Joint Service Adventurous Sail Training Exercise running from the 5 Oct 09 until 4 Apr 10 deploying in HMSTC CHASER. This is a 16m (55FT) sail training craft to the Canary Islands where it will operate from Lanzarote around the Canary Islands for 14 days per leg before returning to Lanzarote. Interested personnel are directed to the DIN on Exercise Canary Gold on the Defence Intranet (2009DIN10-040)
07 Sept 09 - QARNNS Sport
HOCKEY - A combined Royal Marines and Medical (including QARNNS) side won the the RN inter-specialisation tournament held at HMS Temeraire on 4-6 Sept. We hope to enter a QARNNS side next year so if you are interested in playing (skill or experience not required!!) please contact LNN Simon Dominey on 4 or Lt Matt Wesson on or 4 or 3.
In other hockey news, Lt Matt Wesson QARNNS, captained the Navy mens team (which also included LNN Simon Dominey) against the England Men's Hockey Team in the grand finale weekend of the navy hockey centenary season. A large crowd came to watch the historic match, including Vice President of Navy hockey Capt Allkins, Matron-in-chief.
In other sports news - the first QARNNS Sports day was held on 7 July all at Fort Blockhouse. The day was a great success with the North team captained by Lt Cdr Pete Selwood winning the team prize. Further details and photos will be released here soon.
The day previously the QARNNS Rosebowl had been played with Lt Sharon Fraser-Smith and LNN Jason Taylor won the ladies and men's singles titles respectively. For a full list of this and previous years winners click here
22 Jun 09 - Handicapped Childrens Pilgrimage Trust
2009 saw the 30th Anniversary Pilgrimage to Lourdes by members of the Royal Navy including 7 QARNNS. To mark this special occasion, Second Sea Lord and the Command Warrant Officer visited the Pilgrimage to see what the Children and the personnel from the RN got up to. Lt BJ Swire QARNNS has written a report which can be found here.
